Hawaiian Sauce

Looking for something different... This is a sauce recipe from my cookbook. It's a sweet and sour kind of sauce. It is comparable to Chinese Sweet and Sour or as we call it "Red Sauce." Notice Mama's note to me at the bottom.

1 cup Pineapple Chunks
1 cup Pineapple Juice
½ cup Vinegar
6 oz Tomato Paste
¾ cup Sugar
1 cup Water
1 t Salt
1/2 Green Bell Pepper
1/2 Red Bell Pepper
1 medium onion
2 T Cornstarch

Combine all ingredients except cornstarch. Bring to a boil. Cook 5 to 7 minutes. Mix cornstarch with 1/2 cup water and add to pot. Stir until thickened and smooth. Makes about a quart.

Mama's Note: “Good on Chicken, Pork or just about any meat, also makes a good salad dressing…”

  1. Thanks Lynn, sounds delicious! No doubt it's WAY better than what a lot of Chinese restaurants serve! And it reminds me to dig up my mother's Sweet and Sour Pork recipe! Haven't fixed it for years... Love ya! xoxo
